ABOUT NORTH BALI

Our Atlas Pearls farm site can be found close to the capital city Singaraja, the Buleleng region of North Bali, a short three-hour drive from Denpasar.

Established in 2011, the North Bali farm site is home to one of Atlas Pearl’s hatcheries and plays a critical role in overall operations. Here a team of experts run a dedicated selective breeding program and R&D centre ensuring the on-going production of Pinctada maxima oysters and the ability for the company to continue to operate using non-extractive processes.

In addition to the breeding and R&D processes, the farm site offers crystal clear waters where the young oysters can continue the “grow-out” phase, lasting two years before they are relocated by transport vessel to one of six other farm sites for seeding and pearl growth.

ATLAS PEARL FARM EXPERIENCE

It is here at our North Bali farm you can immerse yourself in the daily activities of our farm operations. The free farm tour includes a thorough explanation of the hatchery’s operational activities, and a live seeding operation or harvest. Guests are also given an opportunity to learn about the pearl grading process and pearl virtues. At the end of the tour guests can visit our boutique farm store showcasing some of our beautifully designed jewellery, the perfect opportunity for travellers to purchase their very own South Sea pearl direct from the farm.

DISCOVER NORTH BALI

North Bali is a tranquil and rural oasis where the mountains shelter the north whilst separating the east from the west making for a secluded escape removed from the busier tourist areas. North Bali has some of the most spirited music, oldest archaeological remains and remarkable temple carvings. The Balinese culture found in the north is what originally made Bali, the island of the gods so popular amongst travellers. As an isolated destination, North Bali has its own set of unique rites and customs, this part of Bali holds true authenticity

Why not stay for a while after your Atlas Pearls farm tour and experience North Bali…

As Bali’s second biggest city, Singaraja with a population of around 100,000 people has the prefect atmosphere for travellers wanting to experience the local way of life. This area is removed from the standard path journeyed by tourists. The nearby town of Lovina is nothing compared to the touristic buzz in areas like Kuta and Seminyak but if even the relaxed pace of Lovina feels too touristy, Singaraja offers the perfect antidote.

Unlike many of the other white sandy beaches of Bali, North Bali is home to the well-known black sand beaches. The black sand comes from eroded volcanic material such as lava, basalt rocks, and other dark-coloured rocks and minerals, and is typically found on beaches near volcanic activity. The black sand is believed to have originated from the lava from Bali's most famous volcano, Mount Agung. Close by are the Yeh Panas (hot springs) and the Air Sanih (a natural freshwater pool). This area is well known for snorkelling, diving and dolphin watching in nearby Lovina Beach.

GETTING THERE

North Bali is approximately a three-hour scenic car ride from Denpasar. It is possible to drive there and back in one day but there is so much to see and do on the way and once you are in North Bali that it seems only fair to stay at least one night. We recommend asking your hotel concierge for assistance in booking a trusted driver.
